Yucca
The yucca can reach 30' in height, can fully populate the desert floor, and blooms with all its beauty thoughout June. Though usually a single plant it can form clumps. One near the cottage has three full 15' shoots. The yucca supplied southwestern Indians with food (the flowers), fibers for baskets, sandals, and nets (the leaves), and soap or shampoo (the roots). It is also an important food source for the nectar consuming bats that can be seen at the cottage evenings around the hummingbird feeders, particularly in August and September.
