Nabokov's Satyr (Cyllopsis pyracmon nabokovi)
Great writer Vladimir Nabokov loved the blues, his most famous butterfly the Karner blue. Nabakov, equally respected as a
lepidopterist and literary giant, wrote an early draft of Lolita while spending a season across the road from Myrtle Kraft Cottage.
There, he wrote mornings and studied butterflies afternoons. Though the family Lycaenidae contained his favorites, he is known in this area for his work with the Nymphalidae. Not only was Nabokov's satyr named for him, Nabokov is also credited for his work with the two subspecies of the Pertepida satyr. Nabokov's satyr is most common where oaks grow. Not a nectar taker, it prefers partial shade and can usually be seen from August through mid-October.
