Gray fox
The gray fox which regularly eats various small rodents including mice, rats, squirrels, and cottontail rabbits also enjoys the berries and fruits from area trees, shrubs, and cactus. Here, all winter, a pair (probably mother and kit) enjoys sunflower seeds every morning. Though they will eat a bird when they can catch one, while visiting our feeder these foxes were definitely in a vegetarian mood. These gray fox weigh 5 to 9 pounds and enjoy Myrtle Kraft Cottage’s dense terrain. The smaller kit fox, which weighs about 4 pounds and prefers a more open habitat, often passes through.
