The sacred datura (Datura meteloides) blooms beneath a juniper facing the cottage. Even in dry years, it will bloom all summer from nightfall until the sun hits its flower in the morning. All parts of the plant are extremely poisonous, yet its incredible beauty persuades most of us to let it live.
